La Habana, 16 nov.-Hoy en la capital cubana se festeja el aniversario 499 de la fundación de la villa de San Cristóbal de La Habana, una urbe que ha sido siempre motivación especial de visitantes de todo el mundo para vivir la historia de ciudad.

Como ya es tradicional la conmemoración tuvo como acontecimiento esencial  la ceremonia de las 12 de la noche en la ceiba del Templete, sitio fundacional de la ciudad,  y que incluyó la convocatoria a vivir el año 500 de una ciudad real y maravillosa.

Los habaneros, que se preparan desde ahora para celebrar el año que viene el medio milenio, sienten satisfacción además de haber sido seleccionada el 7 de diciembre de 2014, en Dubái, como una de las siete Ciudades Maravillas del mundo, en el certamen que organiza la fundación suiza New7Wonders.

Las investigaciones dicen que la Plaza de Armas, en la época colonial, devino centro de la vida oficial y pública de la Ciudad. Y está comprobado que en El Templete se constituyó el primer Cabildo y se efectuó la primera misa. En su columna conmemorativa hay una inscripción en latín, casi borrada, que testimonia:

«Detén el paso, caminante, adorna este sitio con un árbol, una ceiba frondosa, más bien diré signo memorable de la prudencia y antigua religión de la joven ciudad, pues ciertamente bajo su sombra fue inmolado solemnemente en esta ciudad el autor de la salud.

«Fue tenida por primera vez la reunión de los prudentes concejales hace ya más de dos siglos: era conservado por una tradición perpetua: sin embargo, cedió al tiempo. Verás una imagen hecha hoy en la piedra, es decir el último de noviembre en el año 1754».

Havana, Cuba, Nov 16.- Today in the Cuban capital, the 499th anniversary of the founding of the town of San Cristóbal de La Habana is celebrated, a city that has been a special motivation for visitors from all over the world to experience the history of city.

As it is already traditional, the commemoration had as an essential event the ceremony of 12:00 at night in the ceiba del Templete, the city’s founding site, which included the call to live the 500th year of a real and wonderful city. Habana’s inhabitants, who are preparing now to celebrate next year’s half-millennium, feel satisfaction in addition to having been selected on December 7, 2014, in Dubai, as one of the Seven Wonder Cities of the World, in the contest that organizes the Swiss Foundation New7Wonders.

The investigations say that the Plaza de Armas, in colonial times, became the center of the official and public life of the City. And it is proven that in El Templete the first Cabildo was constituted and the first Mass was held. In its commemorative column there is an inscription in Latin, almost erased, which testifies:

«Stop the step, walker, decorate this place with a tree, a leafy ceiba tree, rather I will say a memorable sign of the prudence and ancient religion of the young city, because certainly under its shadow the author of health was solemnly immolated in this city .

It was held for the first time the meeting of prudent councilmen more than two centuries ago: it was preserved by a perpetual tradition: however, it yielded to time.
